Training

Metal-cutting fitter with a higher education degree in lathe systems, automatic lathe systems and milling machine systems

Training period 3½ years

As a metal-cutting fitter your speciality lies very much in the precision processing of round and cylindrical parts.

Field of activity
  • You work on machine tools in the metal-cutting fabrication field and produce component parts for technical products
  • Depending on the application field – and in individual component or batch production – you rig lathes, milling machines and grinders. Moreover, you operate them and check on the results obtained.
  • In preparing operations you read, modify and optimise e.g. CNC programmes.
  • That is why we train you in the many and varied techniques of turning and other operations associated with metal material cutting
Career prospects after successful training:
  • CNC specialist
  • Industry foreman
  • State-accredited technician
  • Technical business administrator
Requirements

School-leaving qualification:
advanced technical college certificate ("Fachoberschulreife") as a minimum

Level of education:
An in-depth knowledge of the following school subjects provides the requirements for successful training:

  • Physics
  • Metalwork/technical matters
  • Mathematics

Inclinations and interests:

  • A leaning towards dealing with technical equipment, machinery and systems (e.g. CNC-controlled milling, turning, drilling and grinding machines)
  • Interest in technical aspects
  • A leaning towards work of the inspecting and checking variety (performing manufacturing checks e.g. examining the fitting accuracy of drill holes, checking on surface qualities)
  • A leaning towards practical, hands-on work (clamping work pieces, commissioning machines)
  • Preference for dealing with metal (making precision components from metal)
