Training period 3½ years
Field of activity
  • As a materials inspector, you will inspect materials and products for their characteristics, composition and errors.
  • For quality checks, you take samples during the production process, prepare them for analysis and record the results.
  • With the focus on metal technology, you prepare physical-technical inspections and test series, carry them out and evaluate them.
  • You employ destructive and non-destructive methods to check various material characteristics, such as hardness, firmness and malleability.
Career prospects after successful training:
  • Industry foreman
  • State-accredited technician
  • Technical business administrator
Requirements

School-leaving qualification:
advanced technical college certificate ("Fachoberschulreife") as a minimum

Level of education:
An in-depth knowledge of the following school subjects provides the requirements for successful training:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics

Inclinations and interests:

  • Interested in organisational and checking activities, e.g. checking the quality of metal materials in particular e.g. careful recording of measurements and trial results in order to ensure a consistent product and process quality e.g. monitoring manufacturing processes
  • Interested in theoretical abstract activities e.g. analysing metal materials for characteristics and damage e.g. measuring, checking and analysing changes in material characteristics such as hardness, firmness or density after heat treatments
  • Interested in practical-specific activities, e.g. taking material samples
