Otto Dowidat, responsible for the successful global expansion of GEDORE, died in 1975. His son Karl continued to grow the company into a leading international tool manufacturer. In order to expand the product portfolio, he acquired local specialist manufacturers such as Herder and Dako; they were followed later by providers of special solutions, for instance for the automotive industry, forestry and high-torque technology.
In 2012 the GEDORE group of companies became a holding company. The partners were Karen Dowidat, daughter of Karl Dowidat, and her son Christian. In order to be even closer to the customer and more proactive on the market, GEDORE is realigning in 2016, bundling its competencies and focusing its brand portfolio by integrating the existing brands.
From 2016 there will be three strong brands:
• GEDORE, the premium brand for high-quality tools
• carolus, the brand for solid tools in the middle price segment
• Ochsenkopf, the traditional premium brand for excellent forestry tools
